The paint store clerk is the next 'American Idol'.

Lee DeWyze was crowned last night, over Crystal Bowersox in the contest's ninth season.

There was just a 2 percent voting gap between them coming into the finale. Lees' victory was based on votes cast after Tuesday's performance show.

The total number of votes cast in the finale weren't announced by host Ryan Seacrest. And Fox didn't explain why.

Could it be... a lack of audience interest in this season's talent?... And lower viewership numbers?

Last night was Simon Cowell's last appearance as a judge. A montage of Simon highlights was shown and comedian Dane Cook came on stage to sing "Simon Says," and to crack a few jokes.

In a new interview with Esquire, Tom Cruise explains the famous couch jumping incident on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

The actor says "What happened, happened... I wanted the audience to be happy just like I wanted to make my sisters and my mother happy when I did those skits as a kid.”

And he says after the incident wild things were being said about him and there was noting he could really do about it.

He adds in the end he took responsibility for his actions.

Ellen DeGeneres is setting up her own record label with plans to find and sign up new artists.

The talk show host and "American Idol" judge will announce the news today, on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". She is starting the record label -- eleveneleven -- and signing up 12-year-old YouTube sensation Greyson Chance as her first artist.

The kid from Edmond, Oklahoma posted a video of himself playing the piano and singing Lady Gaga's hit song "Paparazzi" at a sixth grade music festival.

He was invited to appear on Ellen's show on May 13.

Chance has also posted two original compositions on YouTube -- "Stars" and "Broken Hearts."

Ellen said she will use her show as a platform to find new artists, whom she will sign to eleveneleven. The record label is being set up in collaboration with Telepictures Productions.

Mike Myers had some paparazzi drama on the streets of New York on Monday.

One of his friends was arrested for allegedly hitting a photographer with a hockey stick as the photog tried to take pictures of the actor.

The photographer says Myers pal turned on him and hit him on the head with his stick, while Myers fled the scene. He claims to have needed five stitches to treat a wound above his right eye.

Story lines overlapped between the characters on the island and in their parallel lives in the "normal" world back home in California.

On the island, Jack (Matthew Fox) has volunteered from among the chosen candidates to take over from Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) as the island's protector.

The Smoke Monster, in the form of Locke's body (Terry O'Quinn), wants to stop the candidates, kill them, destroy the island and sail away.

Back in Los Angeles, Jack, who's a surgeon, is about to operate on Locke, who (in this incarnation) is crippled.

But then back on the island, Jack and the Monster-Who-Looks-Like-Locke have a tense confrontation.

Monster-Locke says, "I assume you're here to stop me."

Jacko says, "Can't stop you," but promises instead, "I'm gonna kill you."

Well, he doesn't. But a bit later, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) kills the monster-who-is-mortal-again with a single gunshot after a fierce cliffside fight between him and Jack.

Back in L.A., Locke's surgery is a success. From his bed, he gratefully tells Jack he has feeling back in his legs.

Locke says, "Jack, I hope that somebody does for you what you just did for me" Jacko seems to be having flashes of memory of his alternate existence. It's the sort of memory bursts all the characters are having: island recollections invading their consciousness.

A few minutes later, Jack runs into Kate, his island love, where they, too, play the haven't-I-seen-you-somewhere-before game.

He asks her to follow him to a gathering at a church where all the castaways seem to be having a beatific funeral reception for themselves.

And Jack reconciles with his dead father, whose body he had been bringing back from Sydney when Oceanic flight 815 crashed on the lost island at the start of the series.

The husband of late-actress Brittany Murphy was found dead last night at his home in the Hollywood Hills..

Screenwriter Simon Monjack has died just five months after the death of his wife. The cause of death was unknown as of early this morning.

Detectives are "at the scene.... conducting their investigation."

At 9:24 last night, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call for an "unspecified medical need request."

Lindsay Lohan won't be arrested when she returns to Los Angeles from the Cannes Film Festival.

A judge in Los Angeles issued an arrest warrant for Lohan after she missed her court date on Thursday....BUT... the court later lifted the warrant.

The actress posted $100,000 bail, paying a bail bondsman $10,000 for the bond. She must appear at a new hearing date, set for Monday morning

Lindsay missed the appearance because she claims she was stuck in France because someone stole her passport.

A court spokesman said Lohan will likely be ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet and subject to weekly drug tests when she returns.

The prosecutor says she may face 180 days in jail if she violated the probation. Her rep said she has a new temporary passport and is expected to be in Los Angles later today (Friday).

For what its worth, police in Cannes, France said that Lindsay Lohan did NOT report her "stolen" passport to them.

(AGAIN)...BRET MICHAELS HOSPITALIZED WITH A "WARNING STROKE"...PLUS, WAS BRET WATCHING PORN WHEN HE HEMORRHAGED? [2010-05-21 01:00:00]

Bret Michaels had a major setback in his recovery from a brain hemorrhage.

The Poison frontman/reality star had a small "warning stroke" that sent him to the hospital where tests showed he also has a hole in his heart.

Bret went to the hospital because he was having numbness on the left side of his body, face and hands. He was diagnosed with having a Transient Ischemic Attack, or TIA, which is a mini-stroke or warning stroke that causes stroke-like symptoms but doesn't cause neurological damage.

MRI and CT scans then found that Bret had a hole in his heart.

Both conditions are treatable and aren't connected to his hemorrhage.

But now, his doctor doesn't think Bret will be able to appear on this weekend's finale of "Celebrity Apprentice". His return to the concert stage next week is also doubtful.

Bret's rep said: "He's in good spirits, great medical hands and is positive and hopeful that everything is going to be okay. He is up, walking, talking, continuing his daily rehab and very happy to be alive but he has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again.

The prosecutor in the Lindsay Lohan DUI probation case thinks she's violated her probation and should be sent to jail.

He believes the judge made it clear during the last hearing either Lohan proves she's in full compliance with the terms of probation or she goes to jail.

And since she has not attended all of her alcohol-ed classes and has not attended all of the classes in 7 day intervals, as the judge required the prosecutor believes she violated the probation.

He said: "It sounded like a small handgun went off in the back of my head. It felt like a pop. They call it a thunderclap. It's like a migraine times 10. It ran from my temple down to the back of my skull. I knew something was wrong. I overheard the doctor telling my girlfriend, 'If you have children, you should bring them to the hospital now."

Bret also wiped away tears when his 9 year old daughter, Raine, told Oprah what was going through her head when her dad was rushed to the hospital.

She said: "The scariest part was just like thinking, my dad could die tonight. All these memories flashed. To think that my dad wouldn't be growing up with me, that my dad wouldn't be walking down the aisle."

Bret said that while he was in the hospital, he asked God to keep him alive so he could be a father to Raine and her 5 year old sister, Jorja.

He said: "I was doing a lot of asking at that point. 'I know I've done a lot of rotten things, I'm asking for a break here. If you can cut me a break this time, I promise I'll be better in the future.'"

Bret also decided to wear his bandana in the hospital. He told Oprah: "I said, 'If I'm going out, I want to go out rockin.' Some form of a bandana or cape, if I could go out right. Not in that hospital gown."

As for how he's doing now, Bret said: "I have a little bit of trouble. My neck is very stiff. The headaches are still there. Each day it gets better. I'm so happy to be talking to you, to be alive. To have such great family around me, such great friends."

Bret also told Oprah he hopes to appear on the season finale of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice," next week. He's competing for the title and a $250,000 prize for his charity, the American Diabetes Association.

The Jonas Brothers announced they are planning a new group album for 2011, but don't hold them to that.

Nick Jonas said: "As far as the next Jonas Brothers album, I think we're working on what that's going to sound like, just taking our time and trying to make something great, no matter what that sounds like. Hopefully 2011 is the timeline, but we're not sure just yet, and we're in no rush. We're writing a lot of music but in no rush to release an album in any time period."

Kevin Jonas said: "Will Nick Jonas and the Administration have an effect? Potentially. Nick went on a musical journey with that album Joe and I supported, and we're so proud of that project. His influences and things he put into that may come out in new Jonas Brothers songs. We're taking that journey right now, allowing it to take as much time as is needed for it."

For now, new music from the brothers will be featured on the soundtrack to the Disney Channel movie "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam." That drops August 10th. There will also be a soundtrack for the "JONAS L.A." Disney Channel series. That drops July 20th.

Ross is joined tennis star Andy Roddick, actor/hip-hop icon LL Cool J, and 'chat and music' from Christina Aguilera.

If you recall, Eminem and Christina have a bit of history. In 1999, in an MTV episode called "What a Girl Wants" Christina spoke out against Eminem's song that glorified violence against women. Eminem heard about this and wrote a diss song about Christina (and lots of other stars including Britney Spears).

This "feud" went on for several years until during a backstage meeting at the 2002 Video Music Awards, Christina and Eminem had a chat where Eminem apologized for the diss song and Christina hugged him.

This appearance on Jonathan Ross will be the first time the two are seen together in public.

The couple briefly split up in 2006 when Annette filed for divorce, but they soon reunited.

Matt added: "Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true.

"I don't think we're any different than any married couple that's been together for 12 years. The accusations [of infidelity] are ridiculous and I'm not going to [dignify] them with an answer. It's not true."

Meanwhile, Annette says "Out of self respect, I want to stand up for our family and protect them."
