Faced with dwindling ratings and the departure of longtime show-runner Nigel Lythgow, the producers of American Idol are shaking things up this coming season.

The Fox show, for the first time ever, is adding a permanent fourth judge!

Who is it????

It's songwriter Kara DioGuardi (above).

She's the woman "responsible" for many of Ashlee Simpson's "greatest hits."

They're just getting all their ducks lined up in a row and planning for the end of Paula Abdul, we think.

"We are turning the heat up on 'Idol' this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges' table," said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

Adds executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz, "We had originally intended for AMERICAN IDOL to have four judges. We've seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers."

As for Paula, Mike Darnell, President, Alternative Programming of FOX, added "For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table. She's been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on AMERICAN IDOL. With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more 'girl power' on the show."

Kim Kardashian Rushed to ER... (Her Backside Is Fine)

Kim Kardashian cut her foot open in her New York hotel room last night, and was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital.

TMZ reports she cut herself on a glass coffee table, and a source said was "so much blood, it looked like a murder scene."

This could be bad news for "Dancing With the Stars", which makes its official cast announcement this morning. Kim is in town to do press for that and her new movie, "Disaster Movie."

Sources say Kardashian has already begun to practice for the show.

Amanda Bynes in A Car Crash

Amanda Bynes was involved in a minor car accident Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. There were no major injuries.

Cops said Bynes was "driving a BMW when she made an unsafe turn and another car hit her. It was determined that she was at fault, but no crime was committed."

"The other driver complained of minor injuries. Drugs and alcohol were not involved. It was just a typical car accident. There was no serious damage to either vehicle."

Madonna Begins Concert Tour-- Takes Shot at McCain

Madonna kicked off her "Sticky & Sweet" world tour, and decided to bash presidential hopeful John McCain in the process.

During the Material Girl's live show, a video interlude carries images of destruction, global warming, Adolf Hitler and McCain.

Meantime, Barack Obama must have Madonna's vote-- since another video sequence at the concert shows Beatle John Lennon, Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally Obama.

McCain camp Fires Back at Madonna

John McCain's campaign hit back at Madonna, yesterday.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds condemned the segment of Madonna's concert in Cardiff on Saturday that seemed to draw a comparison between McCain, Hitler and Zimbabwean strongman Robert Mugabe.

The spokesman said, "The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time. It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."

Dave Matthews Band Creates Charity Fund In Honor Of Leroi Moore

The Dave Matthews Band has set up a fund to support charities in honor of saxophonist LeRoi Moore. He died unexpectedly on Tuesday of complications from injuries suffered in an ATV accident in June.

The band is directing donations to the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation in Virginia, care of the LeRoi Moore Memorial Fund. Details can be found at the band's web site at www.DaveMatthewsBand.com.

Mother-In-Law Says Amy Winehouse should go to jail

Amy Winehouse's mother-in-law says the singer should be behind bars.

Georgette Civil told Britain's News of the World, "Prison will do Amy far more good than rehab.

"The police know Amy is a drug addict - and she has now been caught twice on film taking illegal drugs. They should arrest her and put her behind bars. Amy doesn't want to give up drugs, so she's got to learn the hard way in prison."

The woman says jail helped her son Blake Fielder-Civil kick his notorious drug habit. She says, "Prison worked for Blake. It's the only thing that can now save Amy".

Taylor Swift Is Not Dating Joe Jonas

Country sensation Taylor Swift brushed off rumors she is dating Joe Jonas.

19-year-old Joe was spotted in Florida watching 18-year-old Taylor perform in West Palm Beach. But Swift's rep insists she is still single, telling People.com, "He's an amazing guy and anybody would be lucky to be dating him."

Justin Timberlake Denies Britney Duet Rumors

Justin Timberlake denied rumors that he will duet with Britney Spears on her new album. A rep for JT said that he "is not scheduled to be in the recording studio with Britney".

Justin and Britney dated between 1998 and 2002. Britney's new album is expected to be released early next year. Justin is dating actress Jessica Biel.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams Reunited

For a couple who broke up more than a year ago, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are spending an awful lot of time together. They went to dinner Monday with a couple of friends in Toronto. They reportedly held hands during the meal.

The couple started hanging out again in July when McAdams turned up to watch Gosling make his DJ debut at Hollywood hotspot Green Door lounge.

(Gosling and McAdams began dating shortly after wrapping the romantic 2004 film "The Notebook". They split in mid-2007.)

Jessica Simpson-- Beer Gal

Jessica Simpson has endorsed everything from shoes to perfume but now she is endorsing something new -- beer.

The singer is the new face of Dallas-based Stampede Light Plus. Simpson will be appearing in ads for the beer and will also be taking a 15 percent stake in the brewery.

The new beer is touted as being packed with vitamins to support an active lifestyle.

Jennifer Garner Confirms Pregnancy

Jennifer Garner has finally confirmed that she is pregnant.

The actress did so at an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday. When asked by a reporter about upcoming projects Garner smiled and pointed to her stomach and said "this".

She wouldn't announce her due date but she told Access Hollywood "we're so excited" about the baby. This will be the second baby for Garner and husband Ben Affleck.

Angie Harmon Pregnant With Third Child

A few weeks back, we reported that actress Angie Harmon was pregnant-- but her husband, former NFL star Jason Sehorn, denied it.

Now comes word they are expecting their third child. Their rep said, "Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn are thrilled to announce that they are expecting their third child".

Angie is hoping for a baby boy this time around to join the couple's two daughters, Finley, and Avery.

Matt Damon Is Daddy Again

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana have welcomed a baby girl-- Gia Zavala. A rep said, "Everyone is happy and great."

Baby Gia joins big sisters Isabella, (who is 2), and Alexa, Luciana's daughter from a previous relationship.

Madonna Show Is On, Adoption Is Off

Despite rumors that Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour world be scrapped because of her seemingly sprained ankle, a rep for Madge's concert promoter, Live Nation, says the show will go on.

Meanwhile, Madonna's longtime rep Liz Rosenberg set the record straight on reports that the Material Mom is close to adopting another child. Liz said:

"There are several totally untrue rumors currently floating around about Madonna. One is that she is canceling shows, canceling a birthday party, that she's adopting a second child from Malawi and that she hurt her ankle. None of these are true."

Eva Longoria "Desperately Trying" for Baby

Desperate Housewives' creator and executive producer Marc Cherry told Us Weekly Eva Longoria Parker "is desperately trying to get pregnant with [husband] Tony Parker. After they phone their doctor, she promised me I will be the next call."

Jennifer Aniston & John Mayer Split... Or Not?

Which rumor are we to believe: John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston are done dating, because:

1. They haven't been photographed together in weeks.

2. They recently denied splashy celebrag stories saying they were getting married, and so therefore they must be breaking up.

3. He's on vacation in Mexico and she's working, and so that means she's been "dumped."

4. John Mayer been crying his eyes out over his apparent split with Jen. His makeup artist had to use PerriconeMD's Advanced Eye Area Therapy because the rocker's eyes were puffy. Aniston is already dating someone else in L.A..

5. A source tells People mag, "They had a great time together but they are just in different places in their lives right now."

6. A friend of Mayer adds that a reconciliation isn't necessarily out of the question: "He never ends things with a clean slate. He likes to dwell on these relationships and sort everything out before saying goodbye for good."

7. A mutual pal tells Us Weekly, "It is really a cooling-off, not this big, dramatic breakup. These are mature people who talk about things maturely. It's just slowed down. "Who's to say where it will end up, but now he has a lot going on.

Another source adds: "If she said she wants kids and he's not ready, that's not being needy. It's being honest."
